Egypt's FM holds series of meetings on sidelines of OIC gathering

File- Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty concluded his visit to Belgrade with a lecture on the evening of Wednesday, January 22.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, held a series of meetings with his counterparts from Somalia, Palestine, Iran and Uzbekistan, on Friday, March 7, on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
 
During his meeting with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, the Egyptian Minister discussed the latest developments in the region, stressed the importance of reducing tensions and de-escalation and exercising self-restraint at this critical stage the region is going through.
 

Minister Abdelatty reviewed the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab Summit held in Cairo on March 4, and the full Arab consensus on the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, addressing the various stages and elements of the plan.
 
He also discussed the summit's welcome of Egypt hosting an international reconstruction conference in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations to mobilize the necessary funding to implement the Arab plan.
 
At his meeting with the Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Mostafa, the Egyptian Minister discussed following up on the outcomes of the extraordinary Arab Summit.
 
Minister Abdelatty stressed working during the coming period to mobilize the necessary international support to implement it, discussing in this regard the moves related to Egypt hosting a conference for reconstruction in Gaza in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.
 
The Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the efforts of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in hosting the Arab Summit in Cairo and the support provided by Egypt to the Palestinian cause, expressing his aspiration to hold the reconstruction conference in a way that would contribute to mobilizing the necessary funding to implement the Arab reconstruction plan, also praising the Egyptian efforts to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire agreement in its three stages.
 
The Egyptian Foreign Minister met with Bakhtiyar Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. The two sides discussed the importance of continuing efforts to enhance joint cooperation between the Egyptian and Uzbek business communities.
 
Abdelatty highlighted the interest of the Egyptian business community in several areas, most notably textiles, infrastructure, and food industries, in addition to implementing joint manufacturing projects with Uzbek companies in Egypt.
 
The two sides also discussed opportunities to enhance joint cooperation in the pharmaceutical field, whether through facilitating the access of Egyptian pharmaceutical products to the Uzbek market, or in relation to exploring investment and joint manufacturing opportunities with the aim of localizing pharmaceutical industries in Uzbekistan.
 
In another meeting, Abdelatty met with Ahmed Maalim Faqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Egyptian Minister said that his country  will continue to support Somalia's efforts to enhance security and stability in the country, and expand the frameworks of cooperation in various fields.
 
Minister Abdelatty also stressed the continuation of building on the momentum witnessed by bilateral relations between the two countries, and deepening joint cooperation within the framework of the joint ministerial committee to follow up on the outcomes of the tripartite summit between Egypt, Somalia and Eritrea, which was held on October 10, 2024 in Asmara.
 
The two ministers discussed developments in the Horn of Africa, where both sides stressed the importance of intensifying joint coordination to address the security challenges facing the region.
 
They also discussed developments in the formation of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), in line with Somalia's vision to achieve security and stability.
 
The meeting also addressed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.
