Somali Foreign Minister meets Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary on sidelines of FOCAC summit

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalan Abdi Ali Dhaay, met with Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia W. Mudavadi, on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Ministers’ Summit.

The two leaders discussed strategies to deepen the longstanding cultural, social, and economic ties between Somalia and Kenya, with a shared commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, and development.

Both ministers agreed to expedite the convening of the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) to finalize key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in multiple sectors, including trade, security, education, and infrastructure.

Minister Ali expressed gratitude for Kenya’s support over the past 25 years, particularly through its contributions to peacekeeping efforts under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strong neighborly relations and emphasized Nairobi’s readiness to expand bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was also attended by Somalia’s Ambassador to China, Hodan Osman Abdi, and Kenya’s Ambassador to China, Willy Bett.
