Mogadishu (HOL) – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with the Somali National Army (SNA) and international partners, has killed more than 40 al-Shabaab operatives in a targeted military operation in the El-Hareeri area of the Hiiraan region.
The operation, launched against a location where al-Shabaab fighters were reportedly concealed, also destroyed vehicles used by the group for logistics and combat operations.
Among those killed were Abuu Anas, identified as the group’s logistics chief for combat units, and Mohamed Ahmed (Xerow), a senior field commander. In addition, Nuur Cabdi Rooble (Nuunuule)—who was in charge of al-Shabaab operations across the Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle, Mudug, and Galgaduud regions—and Commander Jeylaani, a top militant leader overseeing frontline activities, sustained critical injuries.
“These individuals were believed to be the masterminds behind recent suicide attacks orchestrated by al-Shabaab in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions. The success of this operation significantly disrupts their operational capabilities and undermines their plans against the Somali populace,” state media reported on Friday.
The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the ongoing offensive against al-Shabaab, vowing to defend the country’s sovereignty and uphold the true values of Islam against extremist distortions.
