Hargeisa (HOL) — Somaliland has granted legal licenses to three political parties—Waddani, Kaah, and Kulmiye—allowing them to remain official political entities for the next decade.
The licenses were awarded during a ceremony on Wednesday at the Ambassador Hotel in Hargeisa, attended by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro.
The three parties emerged victorious from Somaliland's November 13, 2024 elections. President Irro commended the Commission for the Registration of Political Associations and Approval of National Parties (CRPAANP) for their diligence in overseeing the legal process and praised the Electoral Commission for conducting peaceful and orderly elections.
"The hard work of the committee and the smooth electoral process are commendable, and I congratulate all parties involved," said President Irro.
Seven political associations competed in the elections, with the ruling Kulmiye party and opposition Waddani retaining their status. The newly formed Kaah party replaced the UCID party, which failed to secure a position.
