Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud departed for Asmara, Eritrea, on Wednesday to meet with Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, focusing on key issues impacting the Horn of Africa, as the Somali National News Agency reported.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Macalin Fiqi and other cabinet members are among the delegation of President Mohamud.
The trip to Eritrea comes amid ongoing tensions in Somalia, where a National Consultative Council meeting involving federal and regional leaders has faced political disputes.
Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe recently withdrew from the meeting, citing his demand to include Puntland and Khatumo in the discussions. Madobe argued that their participation is essential for ensuring credible nationwide elections.
