Somalia-Tanzania talks focus on regional security, health, economic cooperation

Mogadishu (HOL) – Somalia hosted a high-level delegation from Tanzania at an official dinner in Mogadishu on Wednesday night to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore opportunities for collaboration in development, security, and regional integration. 

The event, led by Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, focused on deepening bilateral relations, particularly in economic development and stability in the East African region. 

Key discussion topics also included cultural exchange and tourism, spearheaded by Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Daud Aweis, and Tanzania’s Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Dr. Pindi Hazara Chana.

In the health sector, Somalia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Abdi Adan, met with Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Godwin Oloyce Mollel. They explored joint strategies to address healthcare challenges, including public health improvements and medical advancements. 

On defence matters, Somalia’s Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Odowaa Yussuf Raage, held talks with Lieutenant General Salum Haji Othuman, Chief of Staff of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces. Discussions centered on bolstering security cooperation and promoting peace in the region. 

Hamza Hadow, Permanent Secretary of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and departmental directors from various ministries and parliament and cabinet members were among the officials who attended the dinner program.
