Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) forces killed 23 al-Shabab militants in a planned operation in the Baqdad area of the Afgoye district in the Lower Shabelle region, the agency reported.
According to a statement from NISA, the operation destroyed several facilities used by the militant group in the region. The agency urged civilians to steer clear of areas controlled by al-Shabab to ensure their safety.
The operation comes just a day after NISA announced a similar mission in the Yaaqle area of the Middle Shabelle region, where 27 al-Shabab members were reportedly killed.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has suffered significant setbacks in recent months, particularly in Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and the Southwest States, as Somali forces intensify their counter-insurgency efforts.
