Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia’s Federal Election Implementation Committee will hold its election for Chairperson in Mogadishu on Saturday, since ousting their former chairman, Mohamed Irro, in a near-unanimous vote nearly three weeks ago.
Saturday’s election will be contested by exclusively by the remaining members of the federal elections committee.
The election will be closely monitored by the international community after weeks of political impasse between Somalia’s National executive stalled the current electoral process.
Mohamed Hassan Irro has unceremoniously voted out the electoral committee for his political bias and corruption that favoured Villa Somalia. He was considered one of Farmajo’s main allies in the electoral process, and many of his detractors accused Irro of rigging the process from within.
