NCC meeting set to begin

Monday January 3, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) The National Consultative Council meeting is set to open in Mogadishu on Monday, a week after it was originalli scheduled.

The conference will bring together the Prime Minister and the heads of Somalia’s federal member states to discuss improving the electoral process and concluding the elections on a reliable timeline.

Prime Minister Roble held preliminary meetings with state Puntland's President Said Deni, Jubbaland's President Ahmed Madobe and the President Southwest State, Abdiaziz Lafta-gareen, to discuss his commitment to delivering credible elections. Most of Somalia's regional presidents have already arrived in the capital.

Roble, backed by the international community, successfully persuaded state presidents to attend the summit, which was initially left in disarray following last week’s attempt by President Farmajo to suspend the PM.

The President’s actions were roundly condemned by the PM, federal ministers and Somalia’s opposition figures as an illegal power grab.
