Hargeisa (HOL) - Gen. Jama Mohamud Aden (Dollaal) was released from prison on Thursday, nearly a month after being sentenced by a military court in Somaliland.
Gen. Dollaal was made a free man after he received a pardon from Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi.
The general was sentenced last month to two years, leading to protests in his hometown city of Burao.
Several prominent figures, including the chairman of the Wadani party Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), have called on the Somaliland government to reduce the general's sentence, who was said to have had health problems.
The Somaliland government accused the general of having secret contacts in Mogadishu.
