London (HOL) - A teenage Somali asylum seeker is among the six injured by a knifeman at the Park Inn Hotel in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the victims but said they were men aged between 17, 18, 20, 38 and 53.

A policeman, 42-year-old Constable David Whyte was seriously injured in the attack. He is  in critical but stable condition.

The suspect was shot dead by armed police.

Early reports indicate that he may be a failed asylum seeker.

An asylum seeker from Grenada, Daniel Redhead, who was witness to the brutal attack, described the knifeman as a "loner".

The attack took place at a hotel that housed asylum seekers. Five of the six victims were residents at the hotel.

Positive Action in Housing, a refugee and migrant support group said that that between 80 and 100 people lived at the 91-room hotel. It was contracted by housing and social care provider Mears Group on behalf of the U.K government.

The hotel's owner, Radisson Hotel Group, confirmed that the hotel was being used for temporary housing during the COVID pandemic.

Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson said the incident was not being treated as terrorism and the investigation is continuing.
