GAROWE (HOL) - Nugal region of Somalia's Puntland state has produced the top female candidate in this year’s Secondary exams whose results were released on Sunday.
Mariam Abdulkarim of Al-Waha secondary school was the top girl, with a performance index of 98.86.
The school has also managed to produced three students other in the top ten list of well performed students in the regional state.
Over 16,000 students in Puntland regional state sat for their exam last July.
The region does not subscribe to the standardised federal exams system.
Somalia's Minister of Education, Abdullahi Godah Barre said that students in Puntland who have not sat for the official standardized test will not receive their government-recognized secondary school diploma's. The decision has led to a public row with the Puntland's education minister.
